When Zoe & Mitchell first met on a dancefloor on Chapel Street, it wasn’t love at first sight — but it was something. A spark. A chance. And as fate would have it, it became the beginning of a love story bold enough to light up a football oval — literally.
Fast forward to 2021: after a lockdown proposal involving fairy lights spelling out “Will you marry me, Zoe?” across their local oval, these two brought their effortlessly modern romance to life in the heart of winter, under the chandeliers of Metropolis Events.
The Scene
Set against the backdrop of Melbourne’s moody skyline, Zoe and Mitchell’s wedding was the perfect example of why winter weddings are fast becoming the most romantic of all. Think candlelight, velvet shadows, and the kind of deep, rich floral tones that make everything feel cinematic.
Their florals — created by Hadassah Botanica — draped in dramatic reds, plum, blush and ivory, were striking yet soft, adding a touch of old-world glamour. Their styling — elevated by Zoe herself — gave the event a distinct personal stamp. No cake, just a champagne tower (by Cocktail Queen), and rich textural blooms across every surface made this wedding feel bold, luxe, and deeply personal.
The Details
The ceremony took place at The George Ballroom, before guests were welcomed into the soaring, glass-framed reception space at Metropolis. Inside, tables were dressed in crisp linen and soft candlelight, while overhead chandeliers added a golden glow. Deep winter tones in the floral arrangements created richness and drama — echoing the Love Like Thunder aesthetic.
Instead of traditional bomboniere, guests were gifted custom-designed matchboxes by Co Creative Design — a cheeky nod to the couple’s spark.
And then there was the fashion: Zoe wore an Annette of Melbourne gown — long-sleeved, shimmering and form-fitting, with a sculptural silhouette that looked right at home against the grandeur of the venue. Mitchell wore Andre J — sharp, tailored, and timeless.
Why Winter?
